Everyday I’m pleased and enthused by the number of start ups and SME’s taking to twitter to tell us what they can to help us, what they are selling and the services they can provide, better, faster, cheaper and with a bigger smile.
Here in lies the major problem. Twitter is an opportunity for two way communication with your followers and your target market. It’s not just about how many retweets your clever 140 character sales pitch reaches.
How many of you reading this actually spend time actively searching twitter and reading tweets from your followers and possible customers? More over how many respond to these tweets (buying signals) with tailored responses.
Kilo Alfa Ltd put this to the test recently sending out a genuine request asking for print companies to get in touch about printing some of our business cards. It all started well, especially a retweet from a specialist hour with over 2000 followers from the print industry…….the result…….not a single print company contacted us to say “hi we can help, send us details so we can quote”.
At the same time, on the same specialist feed right next to our (buying signals) were tweets from printing companies offering to do all sorts of clever print jobs including printing business cards. This is happening continuously in all industries all day everyday.
So the lesson here is. Don’t use twitter only as a one way communication to tell people about how great you are and what you can do, but also use it to listen out for new customers looking for your services.
