Getting the best from WFH

The covid 19 pandemic has taught many of us that we do not need to be in the office to achieve our goals. This is great news for some but also a challenge for others. Providing a whole new area of management opportunities and issues.

Working from Home for many years was stigmatised as an opportunity to slack off. In fact for those professionals with drive and ambitions it has the opposite effect. People who work from home can often find themselves working longer hours rather than less. The trick is to develop a strategy of work life blend rather than work life balance.

Structure your day or week with routine which includes breaks, exercise and fresh air. Converting your commuting time into working time should allow better planning. Make time for the occasional social telephone call with a colleague to help stay connected and don’t fall into the trap of thinking a full diary of online conference calls is a sign you are doing your job.

Focus on the results rather than the time spent achieving them.
